Meet Emeline: A Journey of Purpose and Passion
Say “Hi” to Emeline. Emeline and I met through our coaching program at UBC when I was lucky enough to be matched with her for our peer coaching group. I have admired Emeline's courageous journey into entrepreneurship and wanted to know more about how she landed where she is.
Emeline Gros: Coach and Jewelry Maker
Two Passions, One Path
Emeline has not one, but two businesses. She coaches clients and designs and crafts beautiful, asymmetrical jewelry. I got to chat with her about these two projects, and learn how much both of them speak to who Emeline is and how she found the perfect path for herself.
When asked which came first, Emeline immediately responded:
“Coaching, definitely coaching. Coaching came up as long as I remember.”
She elaborates:
“When I was a teenager, I was always attracted to psychology and helping people. But I wasn’t really drawn to the idea of studying for many years—I just wanted to work. Soon after, I worked for Dior as a makeup artist in sales. That’s when I first discovered coaching, and I thought, ‘Oh, I’d love to do that!’ I was great at sales and wanted to help others learn how to sell. That’s where my desire for coaching started. At first, it was more about performance coaching, but over time, it evolved with me and my identity. Eventually, I became more interested in self-development and helping people on a deeper level.”
Emeline continues:
“I went through a lot, and I just wanted to use that experience and everything I’ve learned to help others.”
A Life of Exploration
Emeline has never been afraid to try new things. Her career journey has taken her through various roles—working in France with Dior in makeup sales, as an esthetician, in hospitality, and in the nonprofit sector, among others. As you heard, somewhere along the way, she discovered coaching, and it stuck with her.
How Emeline Found Her Path
For Emeline, finding her path was all about exploration. She tried everything and eliminated what didn’t resonate with her. Then, she took a deep dive into identifying her core values—creativity, growth, and freedom.
She discovered these values by constantly taking notes and seeking feedback from those around her. As she puts it:
“Sometimes we are too close to ourselves… being attentive to feedback from others…like with the jewelry I would have never started it if I was… closed to the feedback people gave me.”
People shared with Emeline about her jewelry:
“They're very beautiful. I would love them” …, and I was very hermetic to it. I didn't want to sell them because I made them just for myself, initially. And then I was like last summer. Let's try. Why not now? I kind of detached myself from the emotion around it. So I was like, why not? Let's try it. But because I've heard, and I listened to this feedback.”
By understanding her values and listening to the feedback from those around her, she found decision-making and prioritizing much easier.
